Topic
Can Civility Prevail in the Montana Legislature?
Description
For 90 days every two years, the Montana Legislature meets to pass a state budget and debate new laws. While Montana is not immune from many of the partisan and cantankerous battles we see nationwide, there are many legislators who work across the aisles and find common ground on issues like taxation, state spending, land use, schools, and other issues. On the evening following the general election, we will be joined by two legislators - Reps. Kim Abbott (D), House Minority Leader, and Llew Jones (R) - who will talk about the legislative make-up following the elections, a preview of some of the issues, but mostly how these experienced lawmakers have found ways to work together despite the chaos of today’s political environment.
This Dialogue will be moderated by Mansfield Center Advisory Board Member Jon Bennion, Government Relations Director at The Washington Companies.
Renewal Credits for Montana teachers through the Office of Public Instruction will be offered for this event. Contact Jacob Harris, jacob.harris@mso.umt.edu, in advance if you plan to take advantage of this opportunity.
Please reach out to Keegan Lundman at keegan.lundman@mso.umt.edu no later than two business days before the event for ASL interpretation and other accessibility measures.
