Sam Donaldson: The Long View
Description
Longtime ABC newsman Sam Donaldson looks back on a half-century in the news business, covering everything from the civil rights movement to the Vietnam War to Watergate, and every presidential administration from Lyndon B. Johnson to Barack Obama. In a conversation with Newsy National Correspondent Maritsa Georgiou and former Author and Journalist Gwen Florio, Donaldson discusses the sweeping changes in journalism and its critical role in democracy, and provides perspective on today’s turbulent times.

He covered every presidential election during that time beginning with the campaign of Barry Goldwater. He covered the war in Vietnam and the First Gulf War. She covered stories ranging from the Oklahoma City bombing trials and the mass shooting at Columbine High School, to the glitz of the Miss America pageant and the more practical Miss Navajo contest, whose participants slaughter a sheep. She’s reported from Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia, as well as Lost Springs, Wyo., population three. Her award-winning journalism led to a federal investigation on the handling of sexual assault cases, and to new laws in Montana designed to protect at-risk teens in private, for-profit programs. Maritsa Georgiou (National Correspondent @Newsy) Maritsa Georgiou is a national correspondent for Newsy after years as an anchor at NBC Montana where she specialized in COVID-19, politics and wildfire coverage. She’s most widely known for her reporting on the planned removal of USPS blue collection boxes before the 2020 election, which earned her the 2021 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism. Maritsa lives in Missoula with her husband and son, and has countless relatives across the great state of Montana. She is a fierce believer that one person can make a difference and everyone should try.
